Join in the Moustachery This Movember
It is time for the men of New Zealand to get online and begin rallying support for their upcoming hairy endeavor.
Registrations have now opened for Movember 2014 and the preparations have begun for the invasion of over 15,000
moustaches.
Richie McCaw, Jay Reeve, and Lorenzo Bresolin are all taking up the challenge and are calling Kiwi men to join them this
year to raise funds and awareness for men’s health issues.
“Movember was born in a time where facial hair was rare, now it is a trend. But we’re calling everyone, even the
hipsters, to start clean shaven on 1st Movember. Guys, it’s about making a statement that our health is important and
what better way to do that than a month of moustachery,” says Robert Dunne, New Zealand Country Manager, Movember.
Participating in Movember’s moustachery is about more than just molding a notable mouth brow. Since 2006, the Movember
campaign has raised $10,492,000 that has been put towards programmes both locally and globally that are having an
everlasting impact on key men’s health issues of prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health.
“The Movember campaign is a lot of fun, but we are serious about our vision of having an everlasting impact on the face
of men’s health. The funds raised are carefully put towards various programmes around the country that directly affect
men and their health every day,” says Dunne.
Men’s health statistics are startling. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men, testicular cancer is the
most common cancer affecting our younger men aged 15 to 35 years and around one in eight New Zealand men experience
depression at any given time. In light of these statistics, Movember funded programmes focus on four key areas:
awareness and education, living with and beyond cancer and mental illness, staying mentally healthy and research.
Kiwi women are just as important to the Movember campaign. Affectionately referred to as Mo Sistas, women must get in
behind their Mo Bro, making sure he knows she is happy to put up with his whiskery kisses and added masculinity as he
proudly cultivates an upper lip blanket. This year, Movember will be calling on women around the country to give
permission to the man in their life to register online and grow a Mo for men’s health.
It’s important to register early, because the preparation of a great moustache starts early. Rallying support, booking
in a barber and getting your lady on side all takes time. Mo Bros and Mo Sistas can register online at www.nz.movember.com and create a fundraising profile that colleagues, friends and family can pledge funds towards.
