30th Waikato Home & Garden Show in Birthday Celebration Mode
As Hamilton celebrates its 150th anniversary and the Waikato Home & Garden Show celebrates its 30th anniversary, Show organisers are saying Happy Birthday to the Waikato with a host of
fantastic gifts. Thirty companies are giving home visitors a 30 per cent discount on their products and services.
Visitors can snap up birthday specials at every stand displaying a gold balloon, from spa companies, pure air systems
and bathroom products, furniture, appliances, outdoor kitchens and cookware.
Visitors will also have the chance to win more than $175,000 in prizes including a revolutionary outdoor kitchen and Hot
Springs Spa Pool valued at $25,000, and the $61,000 Home Prize. Take your Waikato Times coupons to the Home Show to be
in to win the $50,000 reader prize package. Someone will also win a $40,000 Belle Lifestyle Package and a VIP racing

The Show is less than two weeks away and Hamilton’s Claudelands Events Centre is already under transformation. Over the
coming days the 2500m2 landscaping and garden dedicated section, 'Brooklyn Gardens' will see more than 300 tonnes of
specially selected rock and aggregates from quarries, rivers and hillsides, some from as far away as the West Coast of
the South Island, along with thousands of trees and plants imported to the zone.
Organiser Graham Hannah says a record number of exhibitors, more than 450 from throughout New Zealand and overseas are
gearing up to provide a four day event incorporating new features, free seminars, including the new renovation court,
national landscaping and interior design awards.
For the first time this year the Show will incorporate the Claudelands Events Centre’s huge sports and entertainment
Arena Pavilion which is being transformed into a spectacular entrance for the event.
With more state of the art product than ever the 750m2 SMEG and Baumatic area includes a live cooking theatre, expert
design seminars, stunning new appliances and the Space Module walk-through presentation with an interactive home
technology. Someone too will win two VIP tickets to the NZV8 SuperTourers Racing event this November at Pukekohe, and by
voting in the Fridge Art competition, win a SMEG FAB10 50’s style min refrigerator valued at $3,699.
The next generation of kiwi masterchefs, aged between 8 - 13 years will be put through their cooking paces at Kitchen
Things Hamilton in the first heat on September 27th and four finalists will compete for the prestigious title at the
SMEG Cooking Theatre at the Home Show on Saturday at 2:00pm and 3:00pm on Sunday with the final on Sunday at 4:00pm.

The Connected Space is the theme this year. The module provides an interactive consumer experience within the SMEG and
Baumatic stand that challenges traditional concepts of a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Visitors can also win amazing
spot prizes by taking a “selfie” wearing the "I've been connected!” sticker at the Space Module and connecting via

Landscape designer talent vying for the NZ Landscape Design Awards will be Celebrating 150 years of gardening in the
Waikato. Local award winning interior designer Paula Hassard of Rooms Design will showcase the ‘Design at its Best’
conceptual dream home in the Arena Pavilion; one of the show stoppers at this year’s Show.
A full programme of experts will be on hand with free advice, presentations and seminars. Visitors looking to buy a new
home or who have relocated a home will have the chance to speak directly to company owners, make bookings and benefit

Hannah says even those looking for a Bedouin style tent home are catered for. A stunning architectural 300 m2
all-weather structure will be in the Premier Outdoor Design Court where, true to his 25-year involvement in creating
spectacular landscape features at the Waikato Home and Garden Show, Gary Bjerring's promises to pull out all the stops
for this year's 30th show. Visitors can also enjoy tasty meals and snacks, sample great wines, craft beers, fresh
juices, good coffee and some live entertainment in this area.
As usual he says there will be great gourmet food, entertainment, cafés and bars throughout the venue to allow visitors
to take a break while making the most of the available opportunities.
Vilagrad Winery is excited to be part of the 30th anniversary of the Waikato Home and Garden Show. “Our father Peter
Nooyen was involved with the Home Show from the outset,” says Jacob Nooyen, one of three brothers now running the
renowned winery. The business specialises in fine wine, food and entertainment. “He promoted Vilagrad at the show and
also hosted some great party nights where he'd put a big pig on the spit. The huge kitchen in the marquee fed everyone.
There was lots of wine and live music.”
Peter Nooyen had a reputation for looking after visitors and exhibitors, and this tradition is being carried on by sons
Jacob, Kristian and Adam. Live music and award-winning wines. “Just like the old days,” says Jacob.
