Pop-up Mini Golf Course Heading to Silo Park
Mini-golf is on its way to Silo Park in Wynyard Quarter! Take a mini golf adventure through a landscape made of borrowed and up-cycled objects, from the very little to the very experienced this is an exciting new playground for everyone this September.
These school holidays, Silo Park will play host to a whole new terrain, with the installation of an 18-hole mini golf adventure through a colourful landscape of loaned and up-cycled objects. Brought to the site by the awesomely creative-minded people at #scribbleAKL, this is a unique and innovative activation of the one-of-a-kind venue that is Silo6.
It's the ideal site for the team at #scribbleAKL to hijack for the upcoming school holidays (running 28th September – Sunday 5th October) in an experimental showcase in collective creativity. The course will be installed as sustainably as possible, the majority of the materials and objects borrowed from people and businesses; otherwise up-cycled or sponsored, to create a unique mini-golf course like no other. This is a community-minded project that echoes #scribbleAKL's values of community and collaborative creation.
The golf course sprang out of the desire to create something tangibly interactive for a multi-disciplinary audience. “It happens in the real world, face to face and hands-on,” says Bhavesh Bhuthadia, of #scribbleAKL. “We talk together and build things together. When you have different people that make connections differently... it can really spark up everyone else’s thinking.”
#scribbleAKL is a free and weekly forum for creative conversations, bringing together a community of creatives, thinkers and doers from a diverse range of disciplines and industries to talk ideas and think-tank. Weekly conversation topics range in scope from general interest to practical solutions for personal problems, including technology, sustainability, community, design, art, entrepreneurialism and wellbeing. It's open to anyone from any industry and background; including but not limited to artists, marketers, designers, engineers and entrepreneurs.
Born from an organic pow-wow among four enterprising friends, #scribbleAKL was established in 2011. It has since expanded to include over 120 events between Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne, with over 200 active members collaboratively creating everything from art installations, to guerrilla gardening to nightclub events. Having previously contributed to such inspiring and creative events as TEDxAuckland, First Thursdays K’ Road, Art Week Auckland, #scribbleAKL is proud to announce the pop-up mini golf course as their largest project to date.
The mini golf course at Silo Park is an inclusive, collaborative, hands-on experience, emphasising face-to-face communication and interaction, creativity and community. The dynamic multi-disciplinary team of various #scribbleAKL community members behind the project reflect this sense of diverse community – including designers, entrepreneurs, artists, illustrators, architects, engineers, a dancer and even a primary school teacher.
The profits from the mini golf course will be going towards equipment and materials that can enhance #scribbleAKL events, boost the community’s presence and grow the community locally and internationally.
Thanks to #scribbleAKL and Silo Park, golf throws off its expensive gear, to become a fun and sustainable experience for Aucklanders and travellers alike.
