Breadcraft Wild Challenge Places Strictly Limited

With only ten days to go, runners and cyclists keen to take part in the Breadcraft Wild Challenge at Pukaha Mount Bruce
Wildlife Centre are urged to register now or risk missing out on the event.
Pukaha Mount Bruce Wildlife Centre is opening up its backcountry on Sunday 28 September. The Breadcraft Wild Challenge
is a 10km trail run / walk through forest and bush teeming with wildlife, followed by a 23km cycle ride along country
roads.
Wild Challenge event coordinator Catherine Rossiter-Stead doesn’t want people to miss out, as there are only a limited
number of spaces. “We’ve restricted the number of entrants to 200 and the track is rarely open to the public,” she
explained. “We know lots of people are talking about entering the challenge and we are urging them to get online quickly
and register or risk missing out on this very special event.”
“The run incorporates an amazing piece of native bush. Only last week, Pukaha staff recorded the song of North-Island
kokako along the course. It has to be the only sporting event in the world where you may hear their rare call,” she
said.
The event is open to individuals and teams, with an option of only doing the run section, as Tranzit Coachlines will be
shuttling participants back to the wildlife centre from the end of the run.
Competitors will receive a free family pass to Pukaha Mount Bruce, so friends and family can explore the wildlife centre
while they wait for the race to finish. Entrants will also go into the draw to win a chance to name and release a kiwi
into the forest.
The cost for an individual entry is $50 and teams cost $60. Entry can be made online at www.pukaha.org.nz/breadcraft-wild-challenge.
Proceeds from the event go towards helping to restore and maintain the Pukaha forest and its birdlife.
