Māori Television Extends Children’s Programming

Māori Television Extends Children’s Programming

Kiwi kids will be able to tune in to Māori Television from 6.30am every Monday through to Saturday from next week.

Starting Monday, September 15, the channel will increase its hours to screen children’s programmes including Pūkoro, an interactive show for pre-schoolers, and Māori language versions of Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants.

Māori Television general manager of programming Haunui Royal says connecting with tamariki is vital for the revitalisation of the Māori language.

“We see this audience as central to our te reo strategy so we are happy to be one of the many Māori organisations in the community that are working together to ensure our language can be handed down to the next generation,” he says.

Kapa Haka programme Toi Whakaari and the popular food show Kai Time on the Road have also been added to the schedule, which previously started at 10.00am.

Tune in to Māori Television from 6.30am every Monday to Saturday for extended children’s programming. These shows are also available on demand at Error! Hyperlink reference not valid..
