NZSO-SOUNZ-RNZC Recordings
SOUNZ is pleased to announce the selection of works for the 2015 NZSO-SOUNZ-RNZC Recordings. The following scores by New Zealand composers were selected for performance by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO) and will be recorded by Radio New Zealand Concert (RNZC) over four days in February 2015:
Alex Taylor - Tiaho Mai
Anthony Ritchie - Underwater Music
Chris Watson - ogee
Jeremy Mayall - convoluted
John Rimmer - Transcend
Maria Grenfell - Hinemoa
Rod Biss - Four New Zealand Bird Songs
Composers submitted works to a selection panel in June this year who then faced the difficult task of selecting the 80 minutes of music for recording. This key SOUNZ project, in partnership with the NZSO and RNZC, produces new recordings of orchestral music, which are then made available as full-length audio on SOUNZ Media On Demand and on RNZC website.
“We are really grateful to our project partners the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Radio New Zealand Concert for contributing their expertise to this valuable project”, says SOUNZ Executive Director, Julie Sperring. “We are proud to be producing these high quality recordings and making them available as streaming audio. Our composers create a wealth of wonderful music that deserves to be heard, and our aim is for these pieces to be picked up for future programming by a range of orchestras here and overseas.”
The first set of 2014 NZSO-SOUNZ-RNZC Recordings, selected in 2013, were recorded earlier this year, with the remaining pieces to be recorded in October. The full list includes:
Chris Watson - sing songs self
Chris Gendall - The Charm Offensive
Andrew Perkins - The Radish and the Shoe
Stephan Prock - Shakespeare Bitters
