7 Days’ Hunt Underway for the Georgie Pie Comedy Apprentice

Hit series 7 Days has turned Kiwi comedians into national stars. Now Georgie Pie and TV3 are asking Kiwis to help them find a brand new comedian to join the 7 Days panel, with the Georgie Pie Comedy Apprentice.

Budding comedians can submit a video entry via TV3.co.nz/comedyapprentice - then the fun begins! Six entrants, chosen from their audition videos, will be brought to Auckland for an intensive workshop entitled "How not to suck on 7 Days" before stepping on stage to showcase their skills in front of a packed audience at The Classic comedy bar.

Their performance in classic 7 Days games like Captions and Answers will be filmed and posted online – where New Zealanders can vote for their favourite. The comedian with the most public votes will be crowned the Georgie Pie Comedy Apprentice – and appear in part of a real episode of 7 Days!

"I'm looking for an apprentice who will bring some real magic to their time on the 7 Days panel,” says 7 Days Producer Jon Bridges.

“Charisma, confidence, and knowing which end of a joke is which, will be important. We'll give them a workshop, some coaching and I'll say something encouraging like "Good luck, ha ha ha.” Ideally it'll be someone so good we'll finally have found someone to be the host of 7 Days and we can get rid of the temporary one who has been doing it til now: Jermany Crabit I think his name is."

“We know there’s some ins-pie-rational comedic talent just waiting to be unearthed,” says Chris Brown, Director of Marketing at McDonald’s. “The Georgie Pie team can’t wait to see who comes forward to get their share of the New Zealand comedy pie.”

7 Days recently celebrated five years on-air and is one of TV3’s most popular programmes. Featuring the talents of host Jeremy Corbett, team leaders Dai Henwood and Paul Ego, and many of our best comedians, 7 Days has won critical acclaim, numerous awards, and legions of fans for its hilarious and boundary-pushing content. .

If you’re funny enough to be on 7 Days, you have until midnight Saturday 6 September to enter via TV3.co.nz/comedyapprentice. The public voting will open on Friday 3 October, and votes can be cast at this website.
