South Island Soroptimists lead the way with young members
Soroptimist International New Zealand South President Christine Stet welcomed a full representation of South Island clubs to their meeting in Hanmer Springs at the weekend of 30 and 31 August 2014.
The clubs have embraced the challenge to recruit younger members to reverse the world wide trend of decreasing membership for service clubs. Three of the seven clubs have already inducted 12 senior high school students as part of a federation trial to explore new membership options.
An international speech
competition for 18 - 24 year old young women was also
launched. Four winners will have an all expenses trip to
Istanbul in July 2015 to address the Soroptimist
International convention, the four yearly gathering of
members from 130 countries and representing 80,000 members.
One winner will represent the South West Pacific. President
Christine Stet, from Westland, said the South Island clubs
were gearing up to promote the competition.
