‘Banding Together’ winners named
Hunting & Fishing New Zealand has named the five lucky game bird hunters who’ve each won one of their $299.99 Matuku hunting jackets in the Banding Together promotion.
To enter the draw, hunters had to send in the duck band details from birds they’d harvested before August 31, 2014.
Hunting & Fishing New Zealand Marketing Manager Andy Tannock has thanked “all hunters who took the time and effort to return the band details.
“We know the winners are going to love their Hunting & Fishing NZ Matuku camo hunting jackets.”
Mr Tannock says that as always, his company is pleased to be able to support projects where the information gathered benefits game bird management, which in turn benefits all hunters.
“As hunters ourselves with stores right around the country, we know it’s vital to contribute to Fish & Game’s research which in the long term will help to improve our duck populations.”
Mr Tannock says if any hunters have not yet sent their band information in, “Hunting & Fishing NZ is happy to see late 2014 entries included in any 2015 draws. “The important thing is to get all band info submitted.”
Eastern Region Senior Fish & Game officer Matthew McDougall says that Fish & Game has earmarked hundreds of thousands of dollars for mallard research but even this amount can only go so far.
“So we are very grateful for corporate support – to Hunting & Fishing for getting behind the Banding Together initiative, which provided hunters with a very appealing incentive to return their band details.
Mr McDougall says the banding helps Fish & Game determine productivity, population sizes, movement, and not least, survival rates for both adults and juveniles of both sexes.
It’s a case of the more bands returned the better, and thanks to Hunting & Fishing we’ve seen a lift in the response from hunters.
