Climate change politics on the big screen at MTG Hawke’s Bay

New Zealand film director Alister Barry will be in Napier this Saturday to introduce the screening of his thought-provoking documentary HOT AIR.

Coming to Napier as part of the New Zealand International Film Festival, HOT AIR will screen at 2.30pm on Saturday 6th September at MTG’s Century Theatre.

The documentary tells the story of 20 years of struggle between politicians, scientists and activists wanting to reduce New Zealand’s greenhouse gas emissions, and corporate leaders and lobbyists resisting change to the status quo. Reflecting on victories and defeats of key political leaders inside and outside Parliament, the documentary offers a (timely) look behind the scenes at how politics in New Zealand works.

As well as personally introducing the film, Mr Barry will hold a question and answer session following the screening.

Mr Barry has been in the Kiwi film industry for more than 40 years and is well-known for his works which include Mururoa, Someone Else’s Country and The Hollow Men.

His co-director and editor of HOT AIR, Abi King-Jones, has also collaborated on two previous feature documentaries of his, A Civilised Society (2007) andThe Hollow Men (2008).
