AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND; Monday
1st September 2014: MTV Australia and New Zealand
have announced the launch of MTV Likes, a
local music initiative profiling and supporting the hottest
new clips from local and international artists. MTV
Likes kicked off with Perth’s rising star
Troye Sivan and the music video for his latest
single“Happy Little Pill” as the first MTV Likes
music video of the week, with the music video for
Taylor Swift’s smash hit single “Shake
It Off” set to feature from Tuesday, following her amazing
performance at the “2014 MTV Video Music
Awards”.
A new local music initiative from MTV Australia and New Zealand, MTV Likes profiles and supports the hottest new clips from both local and international artists. A new clip is chosen each week and introduced by a piece to camera from one of MTV’s local VJs. It airs on high rotation across the network for one week and is given maximum exposure across all MTV platforms on-air and online, including MTV News, and exposure on mtv.co.nz and across MTV’s social media accounts, which have more than 100,000 New Zealand connections and more than two million Australian connections.
With a huge social media following of his own, including almost two million Twitter followers and more than one million Facebook fans, 19-year-old Troye Sivan is currently enjoying a meteoric rise to stardom, with “Happy Little Pill”, the first single off his five-track EP TRXYE, debuting at number one on the iTunes charts in more than 21 different territories.
“This 19-year-old from Perth is making waves globally and is definitely one to watch,” said MTV VJ Kate Peck.
Senior National Promotions Manager of EMI Music Australia, Trent Titmarsh, said: “MTV Likes is a brilliant concept to highlight a special artist and their video clip that’s creating buzz and impact. EMI are thrilled that Troye Sivan’s debut video ‘Happy Little Pill’ was selected as the first MTV Likes clip, this selection truly highlights its intent and dedication to bringing only the best to the MTV viewer.”
Director of MTV Australia and New Zealand, Simon Bates, added: “MTV Likes is our commitment to recognise and support the best new music videos from the best NZ, Australian and international artists from around the world. We were proud to feature Perth’s own Troye Sivan and his clip for ‘Happy Little Pill’ as a first in this initiative.”
