New Zealand Fashion Week Daily Recap 28/8/14
NEW ZEALAND FASHION WEEK 2014 THURSDAY 28TH AUGUST
DAILY
RECAP
SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:
Celine Rita
Celine Rita kicked off the final full day of NZFW forward season collections with a fun, exciting and bright collection. Celine showcased a variety of different prints and patterns ranging in colours from dark magenta, dark orange and royal blue, and emerald greens. The collection was Parisian inspired, with French New Wave actress Anna Karina being noted as the key muse.
New Generation – Young talent – Wilson Trollope, Inhale Apparel, Nomsa Mabuto, ITZME:
Wilson
Trollope:
Wilson Trollope’s collection was
delivered with a tailored and elegant feel, showcasing a
variety of woollen trench coats, dresses and skirts, all
with a mid hem, a common trend to look forward too. The show
featured a colour palette of magenta, deep purple, navy and
black.
Inhale Apparel:
Inhale brought
an impressive debut to NZFW, a perfectly balanced collection
of high fashion and street wear. Turquoise was a dominant
shade in most pieces, particularly on cute lace dresses.
Inhale Apparel’s simple and wearable clothing left a
lasting impression as a definite brand to
watch.
Nomsa Mabuto:
Nomsa Mabuto’s
collection was bold, edgy and creative, letting the audience
know that the designer isn’t afraid to push the limits.
Featuring a showcase in a dominant green palette, featuring
many oversized coats, Nomsa also incorporated a variety of
African prints and fabrics, giving the audience a well and
truly memorable
performance.
ITZME:
New to the
catwalk, ITZME presented an impressive range of tailored
menswear with a female personality. The range included many
oversized coats, mid hemlines and wide leg trousers, in
palettes of red, navy and magenta.
Trish Peng
Trish Peng welcomed the afternoon with a
gorgeous first look at her new spring/summer collection. The
show began with a wide range of versatile separates and
party dresses followed by her more traditional gowns,
emphasizing the designer has much to offer. The signature
favourite was the finale, a long sleeve white wedding dress
with an extra long train.
COOP
As usual guests at COOP’s show weren’t disappointed - the fashion heavyweight putting on another stellar performance, bringing a refreshing pop of colour by showcasing a variety of eye-catching pop up art prints. The show had multiple recurring elements of messy hair, sneakers and khaki, grey and yellow prints.
RESENE DESIGNER SELECTION SHOW presented by Woman’s Day
This show was a guaranteed crowd pleaser, showcasing an outfit from every designer showing at NZFW, with some crowd favourite models adding to the action. The show finale saw Jockey underwear modelled by five All Blacks and All Blacks Sevens players, along side international model and television personality Nikki Phillips.
Annah Stretton
Annah Stretton is more than just a fashion label, and once again, she put on more than just a fashion show. Annah’s new collection was full of Cleopatra like wigs, and bold colours, leaving women feeling brave and empowered. The collection boasted palettes of bright orange and hot pink, that were balanced out by lots of black and pastel rose. Polka dots on polka dots, and with big bows also making an appearance, Annah has definitely inspired women to feel confident in their lives through fashion.
Hailwood:
After 15 years Hailwood never fails to put on a phenomenal show, with this year being no exception. His designs, which ranged from street wear ponchos through to stunning sequence evening dresses, certainly gave his audience something to talk about. One of the most stand out pieces would have to be the reinvention of his blue velvet dress. Hailwood has certainly not failed to deliver yet another inspiring NZFW show!
Kate Sylvester
Kate Sylvester made a welcome return to NZFW with a beautifully constructed collection presented in front of a packed showroom and a captive audience. Kate is celebrating her 21st birthday, and after tonight’s show it is clear to all why she obtained such an admirable milestone.
QUOTE OF THE
DAY:
We caught up with DJ Forbes directly after
their Jockey performance – here’s what he had to
say:
DJ FORBES:
NZFW - “How did you
feel during the show“
DJ - “Probably the worst
feeling in terms of butterflies maybe even worse than a
rugby game! Really glad to be fully clothed
again!”
NZFW - “Did you enjoy being a model?”
DJ
- “I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it, definitely a different
vibe from what I am used to, it was just a bit of fun, I
initially thought it would be pretty casual, but in the end
it was quite intense!”
NZFW - “Have you been to any
other shows this week?”
DJ - “No this was my first,
I’ve been asked a few times, who would have thought I
would end up on the runway before actually attending a
show.“
NZFW - “How was the overall
experience?”
DJ - “It was good, definitely ticked
something off the bucket list.”
