BNZ donates 41 thousand hours of volunteer service in 8 hours
While BNZ is ‘good with money’, its people are ‘good with time’.
On 4 September, almost 4000 BNZ’s employees will offer up 8000 pairs of hand and feet, volunteer around 41,000 hours of
service, across more than 460 projects nationwide, contributing the equivalent of over a million dollars to the
communities they work and live in.
This volunteer initiative, now in its fifth year, endeavours to make a real and positive impact in local communities by
connecting good causes and good people to support pursuits important to them.
What this team of four thousand undertake and achieve in one day would take around sixteen years of one persons working
life.
BNZ’s chief executive Anthony Healy says, “Volunteer service is one of the many ways the company shows its commitment to
the communities we have a presence in. “
‘We acknowledge that every employee in the bank has a role to play in supporting their communities and environment.
That’s why we’re proud to be able to share the skills and expertise of our people with their neighbourhoods for a day.”
BNZ's Closed for Good initiative is New Zealand’s biggest day of corporate volunteering and sees BNZ stores and offices
around New Zealand close their doors for a whole day so that staff can help out community and not-for-profit groups with
projects that support the wider community.
A snapshot of projects being undertaken include a ‘graffiti busting’ venture in the four main centres in conjunction
with local councils, regeneration schemes, financial literacy and education activities and clean-up and conservation
projects in local neighbourhoods.
Being closed for a day won’t disadvantage BNZ customers; they will still have support staff behind the scenes to ensure
urgent and time critical services are provided. Call centre staff will also be available on the day.
