“Festival Italiano” Win a Trip to Italy!
28 September 2014, 11am – 4pm
New Zealand’s largest Italian Festival is almost here, a celebration of culture, music, food, design and everything that il Bel Paese (the beautiful country) has to offer in Aotearoa.
Festival Italiano starts with Andrea Bocelli in concert at Vector Arena on 11 September, and concludes with the Italian Film Festival at the Rialto, Newmarket on 12 October.
One of the highlights of Festival Italiano is the annual Italian community street party - this is held on the charming Osborne and Kent Streets, tucked behind Broadway in Newmarket.
“In Newmarket businesses really get into the spirit of things with vibrant Italian window displays, Italian themed activities and themed menus” says Newmarket Business Association CEO Mark Knoff-Thomas, “a great example of this is Best Ugly Bagels creating ‘The Soprano’ a limited edition Italian themed bagel of the week!”
On Sunday September 28th, from 11 am to 4 pm Osborne Street in Newmarket will be pedestrian only, hosting al fresco dining, an Italian market with over 30 stalls, and live music and entertainment with Italian MC Paolo Rotondo and special guest (and Italian speaker) Sir John Kirwan. There will also be free activities for the children in the Kid’s Pavilion, workshops, spot prizes, Ferrari cars and Italian motorbikes, delicious tastings and fun for the whole family!
The Festival Italiano is organised by the Dante Alighieri Society of Auckland in collaboration with the Newmarket Business Association and the generous support of theWaitematā Local Board. Corporate sponsors are Peroni and United Travel Newmarket (there is a raffle on the day to win a trip to Italy!).
