Cameron takes NZRL community role
New Zealand Rugby League has appointed Jacob Cameron as its new community general manager, overseeing some exciting
projects in the "more than just a game" aspect of its business.
Cameron has filled the role under secondment from Sport Auckland over the past three months, and brings an extensive
background in sports administration at regional and national level.
He also offers insight into rugby league governance through terms with the Gisborne/Tairawhiti and Akarana boards.
"Several great candidates applied for this role, but Jacob brings plenty of attributes and skills to the position that I
think will set NZRL apart in the community sport space," says chief executive Phil Holden.
"He has real depth of experience through the programmes he has delivered and his leadership from within his current role
at Sport Auckland as community sport director. He has an extensive network across the country and strong relationship
skills at all levels.
"Jacob will help take NZRL forward in a key and critical area and role for our game."
In his new role, Cameron will support the sport's seven zones from a game development perspective and other key
campaigns aimed at building the capability of the rugby league community.
He will also manage the League 4 Life Foundation, a philanthropic trust focused on supporting those in need from within
the game.
"We occupy a very special and unique place in NZ society that enables us to reach people that can really use our help,"
says Holden. "Jacob will be instrumental in developing those opportunities wherever possible."
He begins his role full-time on September 8.
