ALCP Announce Transport And Energy Policy
The transport and energy sectors stand to benefit significantly according to infrastructure policy released today by the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party.
Industrial hemp is the best source for biofuel and renewable resources, needed to fuel New Zealand's economy.
ALCP Leader Julian Crawford said much of New Zealand's electricity generation and transport fuels could be produced locally from hemp, replacing petroleum products.
"Our policy would subsidise farmers to switch to growing hemp for biofuel production," Mr Crawford said.
"Hemp produces more than five times the biomass of other crops. It is a fast-growing and environmentally-friendly renewable resource."
ALCP are also calling for a new local industry in hemp derived carbon-fibre and graphene.
"The hi-tech sector are calling out for a reliable supply of carbon-fibre and graphene, Mr Crawford said.
The ALCP would also use hemp building materials such as hempcrete and hemp chipboard in the rebuild of Christchurch.
"Hempcrete is an ideal building material for earthquake prone areas and it is fire resistant," he said.
"The revenue from a thriving hemp industry would also be used to help cover the cost of recovering from the Christchurch earthquakes."
