Fireman's Challenge Raises Funds for Youth Charity
Firepower came to Queenstown’s Coronet Peak today
Teams of firefighters in full gear went head to head on the slopes, in aid of the Bruce Grant Youth Trust.
Clutching a 30m-long 20kg fire hose, teams from Wanaka and Queenstown were neck and neck in the two-hour Firefighter
Chillfactor Challenge, but overall Queenstown retained the trophy taking into account a fun Hose Haul on the deck and
fundraising dollars raised.
Auckland Airport firefighter Tony Scott, who is also the man behind the annual Auckland Sky Tower Challenge, organized
the event to raise money for the trust which provides funding for young people who want to further themselves in the
arts, sports or cultural fields.
“When we add it all up we should have raised just over the $10,000 mark which is fantastic. The local teams are so good
we’re hard pushed to beat them but we all have a great fun day on the snow thanks to NZSki,” he said.
Mr Scott said he would be planning some new elements to the Firefighter Challenge for next year to mark the
20thanniversary of the death of Queenstown mountaineer Bruce Grant, who perished on K2 in 1995.
