Isner confirmed to head back to NZ to defend Heineken Open title
The NZ Festival of Tennis is excited to announce that 2014 Heineken Open champion, John Isner (USA), will be heading back to NZ shores this summer, to defend his title.
“The Heineken Open has been unreal for me. I have won it twice and always feel really comfortable there,” says defending champion, Isner.
“It really helped set my season up and was an amazing way to kick off 2014. I’m really excited to be heading back to NZ to defend my title!”
Currently ranked world number 15, the American giant has had a solid year. After lifting his eighth ATP World Tour trophy at the Heineken Open in January, he went on to reach the Semi Finals of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Indian Wells, and the Quarter Finals at Wimbledon. The 29-year-old also reached top 10 in March this year, and will no doubt be pressing for a return at next week’s US Open.
“We’re so excited to welcome back our Heineken Open defending champion. John loves this tournament and I know it is close to his heart as it’s the only tournament he has won outside of the United States,” says Tournament Director, Karl Budge.
“Both fields are shaping up nicely, with September being a big month for securing players following the US Open. Watch this space!”
2015 is the second year of the NZ Festival of Tennis, which offers a celebration of tennis, and the great Kiwi Summer, anchored by two marquee events – the ASB Classic and the Heineken Open.
Guests can expect everything they enjoyed in the inaugural year and more; the world’s best tennis players, dining out at Auckland’s favourite restaurants, and soaking up the sun and beats at the Heineken Baseline Live Site.
SkyCity Catering is on board to deliver premium pop-up offerings from their restaurant stable including The Grill by Sean Connolly and some exciting new inclusions that will be announced in the coming weeks.
2015 also sees the return of separate day and night session tickets, allowing fans to celebrate the spectacle and excitement of the tournaments when it suits them – whether it’s a day off work, or a night out with friends.
The NZ Festival of Tennis will kick off on January 5, 2015, welcoming a plethora of talent from around the world. The Heineken Open commences on January 12, 2015.
