Awards to recognise outstanding contributions to New Zealand recreation
Recreation enthusiasts have just one month left to nominate organisations and individuals that have made exceptional
contributions to improving recreation and sport for New Zealanders.
The New Zealand Recreation Association (NZRA) Awards 2014 represent the very best achievements, contributions and
innovations in recreation and sport in New Zealand.
NZRA Chief Executive Andrew Leslie says the awards are well regarded and highly anticipated by the industry.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the organisations and people that make such an important contribution to New
Zealand’s recreation sector.”
Award categories recognise emerging leaders, individuals who have made a significant contribution to the sector,
outstanding community recreation programmes, projects and events, as well as leading facilities such as sports centres,
parks and pools.
Last year’s winners included Kaitoke Regional Park in Upper Hutt for its outstanding native bush and river ecosystem,
and the Graham Condon Recreation and Sport Centre in Christchurch, which impressed the judges with its successful
partnerships in the local community.
The awards will be presented at an awards dinner held at the Air Force Museum in Christchurch on 27 November as part of
NZRA’s National Conference.
“The conference is the premier event for New Zealand’s recreation sector and NZRA have put together an impressive
line-up of local and international speakers, such as New Zealand sporting legend Rob Waddell and Dr Robert Manning from
the University of Vermont, USA,” Mr Leslie says.
The NZRA National Conference will run from 26-28 November at Lincoln University in Christchurch.
