SKY Brings Armageddon Expo to the Small Screen in a Big Way

New Zealand’s biggest pulp-culture event, Armageddon Expo has expanded its universe with a one-year partnership with SKY Television that will see the visiting stars’ most loved shows running on the SKY’s new channel THE ZONE from early November.

Armageddon Expo, October 24th to 27th attracts top local and international film, television, animation and comic talent and the crowds of fans wanting to meet the stars have been growing annually.

The productions that made these stars famous have often been missing from our TV screens but with the launch of THE ZONE and the partnership, open’s up access to talent that previously may not have toured to New Zealand before.

SKY’s Head of General Entertainment Karen Bieleski said " SKY’s new channel THE ZONE and entertainment expo Armageddon is a match made in heaven - like Kirk to the Enterprise, Spike to Buffy or Dean to his Impala – it just makes sense for the two to merge and expand the experience for local fans of science fiction, cult, fantasy, horror and superhero genres.”

Armageddon fans will now have a one stop channel in THE ZONE, with Science Fiction, Cult, Fantasy, Superhero and Horror genres all being covered. Premiere series include Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain, director Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn and Teen Wolf featuring Michael Hogan who will also appear at this year’s Armageddon Expo – Michael stars on Battlestar Galactica, also calling THE ZONE its home.

Stargate SG1 star Richard Dean Anderson will also be a regular on the channel as well as a headline visitor to Armageddon Expo this October. And fans of Supernatural will be able to go back to the the beginning with a regular slot, as well as having the opportunity to cast eyes on DJ Qualls, Matt Frewer, AJ Buckley and Travis Wester at the Expo.

Armageddon Expo owner Bill Geradts says that the partnership with SKY’s THE ZONE is the missing link for his event.

“When these stars attend Armageddon Expo, it stimulates a huge wave of interest from fans and media, in some cases for shows that haven’t been on-air on New Zealand television for years.

"Now SKY can fulfill that demand but also help in attracting new fans to the genre and bigger stars to come to New Zealand in future,” he said.

TV guests that will be appearing at the Auckland Armageddon Expo include Richard Dean Anderson (Macgyver / Stargate SG-1), Michael Hogan (Battlestar Galactica / Teen Wolf), Jacqueline Samuda (Stargate SG-1), Graham McTavish (Hobbit Films / Outlander), A J Buckley (Supernatural / CSI: NY), Travis Wester (Supernatural), Kelly Hu (X-Men 2, Arrow, Vampire Diaries), David Hewlett (Stargate Atlantis), Suanne Braun (Stargate SG-1), Peter Williams (Stargate SG-1), Helen Slater (Supergirl / Smallville), Cliff Simon (Stargate SG-1), Matt Frewer (Max Headroom, Supernatural) and DJ Qualls (Supernatural / Road Trip).

As well as the big names, huge exhibitors and the biggest display of costumed cult-fans that gather in one place, its events like the infamous Kamehameha competition, Cosplay contest and classic Fear Factor Challenge that keep the adrenalin flowing throughout the event.

From its inception in 1995, the Armageddon Expo has grown to become the largest fantasy event in Australasia. With shows in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Melbourne and Hamilton, the Armageddon Expo embodies the ever-growing pulp culture phenomenon.
