Two new light installations- part of the Wellington LUX Festival will feature at Museum of Wellington City & Sea from Thursday 21 August to Sunday 31 August. Wellington artists, Anthony Nevin and Natalie McLeod will discuss
their work on Friday 22 August at 12.30pm as part of the Museum’s Lunchtime Sessions.
Lunchtime Sessions at the Museum will feature a range of exciting and diverse acts or talks during the lunch hour of the Monday to Friday
work week.
Nevin will discuss the design and development of his new piece, “Kraken”, which will appear on the outside of the
Museum. The work is inspired by bioluminescent sea creatures, where his piece translates the human voice through
fleeting curves and arcs of light. People are invited to transform their relationships with each other into
collaborative playful acts of noisemaking.
McLeod will also discuss her work “Staurosira Construens”. Her piece is a laser cut and etched repeating pattern derived
from scanning electron micrographs of freshwater diatoms found in New Zealand. This work seeks to promote the value and
complexity of repeat pattern design for screen-printed textiles by applying traditional knowledge to the use of new
materials.
Head of Learning and Programmes, Rachel Ingram says, “The Wellington LUX Festival is such an exciting time of year for
Wellington. We’re excited to have both Anthony and Natalie display their work and we look forward to hosting a
discussion on their process.”
When walking past the Museum, people can view the light installations. Entry into the talk on Friday is by koha. All are
welcome to come along and participate in the Wellington LUX Festival featured at the Museum.
