Footnote New Zealand Dance will be performing live at Museum of Wellington City & Sea as part of the Museum’s new series of Lunchtime Sessions. On Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 August at 12.30pm, dancers from the company will perform a new work titled Watch this Space - Maatakitakihia Mai Tenei Waahi.
Lunchtime Sessions at the Museum will feature a range of exciting and diverse acts or talks during the lunch hour of the Monday to Friday work week. This Lunchtime Session at the Museum gives people the opportunity to watch New Zealand’s longest running contemporary dance company in their latest work.
Footnote New Zealand Dance’s August performance in the Museum is the latest in their critically acclaimed “Watch This Space” series. Drawing inspiration from contemporary art, Footnote performs improvised dance pieces as a response to the art form in question.
In collaboration with Wellington poet Bill Nelson, dancers will respond to his poem On the First Day. On Wednesday 27 August session, the performance will be accompanied by Nelson’s reading. Watch This Space occurs in gallery spaces and has had a varied number of approaches from an on-the-spot response to dialogue between dancers and the artists about their processes and work.
Head of Learning and Programmes, Rachel Ingram says, “Lunchtime Sessions are a great opportunity for people to come into the Museum on their lunch break to experience Wellington’s rich heritage, culture and art. We’re very excited to work with Footnote New Zealand Dance.”
Entry to view Footnote’s new work is by koha. All are welcome.
