All Blacks stars Owen Franks, Dane Coles, Ma’a Nonu and Conrad Smith have given a group of young Sydney Rugby fans a morning to remember, with a surprise visit from the Rugby players and adidas ambassadors.
Ahead of their Bledisloe Cup clash with Australia on Saturday, 16 August, adidas and NZ Rugby reached out to a local Rugby Union club to offer 17 lucky kids aged 11-16 the chance to ‘Live Like an All Black’ for the morning.
The kids were outfitted in an All Blacks jersey and adidas kit, given a Haka tutorial from an experienced Maori leader, and participated in a skills session with a Rugby coach.
Unaware their heroes were just metres away, the kids ran onto the field to perform the Haka. Standing in front of a life-size banner of the All Blacks, the kids received the surprise of their lives when midway through their performance Franks, Coles, Nonu and Smith burst through to meet their fans. The players then took the kids through a series of rugby drills and finished the session with photos and autographs.
All Blacks player, Nonu said, “We’re excited to work with adidas to give these young All Blacks fans in Australia an opportunity like this. Hopefully we can inspire some of the kids to reach their goals and one day play for their country.”
adidas Sports Marketing Manager, Meaghan Jeffrey said, “Young Rugby Union players the world over look up to the likes of world-class players such as Nonu, Smith, Frank and Coles. As a proud sponsor of the All Blacks, we’re thrilled we can bring together young fans and their heroes and give them an experience they’ll never forget.”
adidas has a longstanding and proud history with both New Zealand Rugby and the All Blacks, having sponsored the team since 2009.
