Beervana Smartphone App Launches
Beervana 2014’s smartphone app is set to make this year’s festival a more social and interactive experience than ever.
Custom built by developers at Wellington online power retailer Powershop, the app allows festival goers to rate and
review beers as they go, creating a real-time ‘People’s Choice’ leaderboard.
Alongside the top ranked brews, those with more adventurous tastes can check out the Odd leaderboard, home of the
festival’s most popular experimental and unusual beers.
The app also lets festival goers build personal wish lists so no beers are left untasted, and a handy map pointing the
way to the best eateries, entertainment and chill out areas at the event.
Powershop’s Ari Sargent says building the app was a labour of love for his staff as it combined two of their favourite
things, smartphones and craft beer.
“We love connecting with customers through technology so we jumped at the chance to build an app that brings craft beer
enthusiasts that little bit closer together.
“We also believe it's good fun to monitor your consumption, regardless of whether its pints or power,” Mr Sargent says.
Festival Director David Cryer says the app is a great addition to Beervana. “We want people to enjoy Beervana at all
levels and the Beervana app elevates the experience to a whole new stratosphere,” says David Cryer.
It’s a year of embracing new technologies at Beervana, as along with the Beervana app, special wristbands are being
introduced for people load up their Beervana currency onto, which they then use to pay for their beer tastings by
passing it over an RFID reader.
The official Beervana 2014 app is available for both iOS and Android and can be downloaded from the following links:
