Topp Twins Celebrate Country Music Greats on National Tour in October and November

Well-loved New Zealand entertainers Lynda and Jools Topp are back on the road and heading to Wellington in November with a new show paying homage to country music greats and celebrating contemporary Kiwi music, with the Topps' inimitable style of comedy throughout.

The Topp Twins in The Grand Ole Topp'ry is playing at the Opera House in Wellington onSaturday 1 November.

Reminiscent of Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, where comedy and country music always went hand in hand, the Topps’ hilarious characters will host the show and channel stars from the US Country Music Hall of Fame.

The story of Country Music from the swamps of Tennessee to the Waikato hills has never been told, so come along for the ride of your lives. Special guests include multi-award-winning country artist Tami Neilson, supported by Dave Khan and Ben Woolley, plus the all-girl Johnny Cash band, The Johnnys, The X Factorcontestant Cam Luxton and Kiwi legend guitarist Phil Doublet.

Lynda Topp says that just as Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry has changed over the years, like the Topp Twins, it has remained a cultural institution.

“Our take on the Grand Ole Opry (Topp’ry) will celebrate country music's diversity and will be a night of rollicking good fun, foot-stomping music to laugh and live by, as well as paying respect to something larger than ourselves.”

The Topp Twins are New Zealand’s well-loved musical and comic duo. Twin sisters with their own prime-time television series and movie, they are truly original entertainers and one of the few New Zealand acts which can undoubtedly be called a cultural institution.

Canadian-born Tami Neilson has opened for the likes of Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris, been hailed by critics as "The New Queen of Country" –- Tom Cardy, Dominion-Post, and won the New Zealand Music Awards' Tui for Best Country Album three years in a row and the New Zealand Country Music Awards' Best Female Artist 2010 and 2011.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: THE JOHNNYS
Nelson-based band The Johnnys is the world’s first, and only, all-girl Johnny Cash band. However The Johnnys are not a tribute band but rather 'play tribute' to 'The Man in Black' and deliver Johnny Cash songs like no one has ever heard them before but without even a whisper of a baritone on stage – sensitive, character-filled renditions of all the Cash classics coloured with goose bump breaking vocal harmonies and infectious undertones of the Pacific.
