The Block Nz Adds to the Action in 2014
TV3 announced today that their
top-rating show The Block NZ will screen an
additional episode each week when series three premieres on
August 26th at 7.30pm.
Block-a-holics will now be able to get their fix four nights a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.
TV3’s Director of Programming, Mark Caulton says the popularity of The Block NZ made it the television event of 2013 and he’s delighted to be able to extend the viewer experience.
“The last two series of The Block NZ surpassed our expectations in terms of viewer engagement and we have built a huge fan base around the show. Our audience have consistently told us that they want to see more of The Block NZ, and this year it’s fantastic to be able to offer them a bigger, better series than ever before,” he says.
Sue Woodfield, TV3’s Head of Commissioning and External Production is also looking forward to making more content available to viewers.
“We’ve always had a lot more great footage than we can use each week, so this year we’re happy to be able to bring viewers even more of the action,” she says.
For the first time in The Block NZ history the four teams will be transforming houses just ten minutes from downtown Auckland, with sea views out to the Waitemata Harbour, in the sought-after suburb of Point Chevalier.
This central location will present new and exciting twists as two houses are set to be cut in half, stripped back and developed into four contemporary, upmarket family homes.
The Block NZ is again hosted by Mark Richardson and Shannon Ryan and they’re joined by two new judges this year - magazine editor Shelley Ferguson and architect Mark Gascoigne.
This year’s teams are:
Maree and James: South Auckland team Maree Wright (27) an event manager and her property valuer partner of 13 years, James Steele (28)
Jo and Damo: Recently married Feilding team, former children’s clothing designer Jo (34) and her Policeman husband, Damo Neal (36)
Alex and Corban: Married West Auckland team, fashion buyer Alex (29) and her mechanical engineer husband Corban Walls (32)
Quinn and Ben: Christchurch team, beauty therapist Quinn (26) and her husband Business Development Manager (30) Ben Alexandre.
Last year saw husband and wife team Alice and Caleb take home $261,000 after a dramatic auction where their house sold for $1,126,000, televised LIVE on TV3.
The Block NZ was TV3’s biggest show of 2013, holding the #1 show on television spot in the key 25-54 demographic. The final episode, which culminated in a two-hour LIVE auction was watched by an average audience of 683,500 Kiwis (5+ rating), a phenomenal 39% increase on the 491,600 audience for 2012.
The Block NZ is produced by Eyeworks Television for TV3. The broadcast sponsor is Bunnings Warehouse, joined by programme partners Kiwibank, Honda and Wild Bean Cafe.
