New RNZYS Commodore Appointed
The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS) has appointed Andy Anderson, Jasmax Principal, as their new Commodore.
Assuming the role at the prestigious yacht club’s AGM on Thursday 7 August, Andy is the 62nd Commodore in the Club’s 143rd year. With the announcement of Team New Zealand’s confirmed entry in the 35th America’s Cup challenge at the same AGM, Andy’s focus for his two year tenure will be supporting the team’s preparations for the 2017 competition, along with a very active local and international sailing calendar.
Andy, also a Board member on the International Council of Yacht Clubs (ICOYC), has been a member of the RNZYS since 1996, and with over 35 years’ of sailing experience, was confirmed in the role by his fellow members earlier this year.
On his appointment, Andy comments “It’s both a privilege and responsibility to be at the helm of one of the world’s preeminent yacht clubs; a club that has won every major sailing trophy in the world, including the America’s Cup. I’m humbled to be able to influence this historic club, and to be able to give the opportunities to our children, young people and members that sailing and the Squadron has given to me.”
A Registered Architect and former Managing Principal for architectural design firm Jasmax, Andy has delivered a number of well-known projects across Auckland and New Zealand, including Fonterra’s new headquarters, Viaduct Harbour’s Vodafone V’Nue and the Heritage Hotel.
