Stan Walker Announced as First Casting in International Hip-Hop Film
‘BORN TO DANCE’
(Auckland, NZ. August 3rd) Australasian superstar Stan Walker was today announced as the first lead casting of the multi-million dollar international hip-hop film ‘Born To Dance’ set to shoot in New Zealand in October 2014.
Walker, best known for his string of musical hits, is no stranger to international screens. Walker played the title role
in the 2013 hit feature film ‘Mt Zion’ and was a judge on the smash hit TV3 Show, The X Factor NZ. Walker is thrilled to have the opportunity to play the role of ‘Benjy’, one of the protagonist Tu’s close-knit group
of friends from Papakura, in this feature.
“I am very excited to be part of the very first major dance film to come out of NZ,” says Walker. “NZ is one of the biggest hip hop dance nations and it will be awesome to get our story and our dancers showcased to an
international audience.”
‘Born to Dance’ is a coming of age tale told through the eyes of ‘Tu’, an ambitious young man from Auckland who dreams of being a professional hip hop dancer. It will be choreographed by
NZ’s own international dance superstar Parris Goebel, while Tammy Davis will direct the feature, following from his award winning short films Ebony Society and Sonny, My Older Brother.
"I am so excited to be directing Born To Dance,” says Davis. “This is a film that will totally connect with audiences here in NZ and around the world. We have a great story and the
dancing is going to be amazing. I can't wait to see what Parris Goebel does with the choreography, and with talent like
Stan Walker on board you’d better book your tickets now because there are going to be queues around the corner to see
this film"
Casting is still underway for the supporting cast and other lead cast are due to be announced in the coming months. An
international Hollywood starlet is tipped to play the lead female role.
From today, up and coming dancers are able to enter online to win a walk-on part in the film via nationwide radio
stations Flava and ZM. To be into win, dancers are encouraged to head to the stations websites www.flava.co.nz or www.zmonline.com and upload a video of their best dance routine.
Leanne Saunders, Daniel Story and Jill Macnab will produce the film with Phil Bremner and Matt Noonan on board as
Executive Producers. Curious Film are a production partner, while Park Road Post Production are the post-production
partner with Vendetta Films the distributor.
