Mystery Film for Community Fundraising Event Revealed
The Auckland Women’s Centre is excited to reveal the mystery film to be screened at its upcoming fundraising event will
be The Punk Singer!
The Punk Singer is a documentary film that delves into the life and work of Kathleen Hanna, a woman best known for
fronting the punk band Bikini Kill and being central to the Riot Grrrl movement of the 1990s.
The film, directed by Sini Anderson, has appearances by Kathleen herself as well as other influential figures in the
feminist movement and punk/grunge scene of the 1990s, including Joan Jett and Tobi Vail.
The documentary has just finished screening at the International Film Festival in Auckland, having premiered at the SXSW
Film Festival in 2013. Its use of archival footage and interviews has resulted in a film outstanding in its style and
content.
This event is part of The Auckland Women’s Centre’s fundraising activities, to ensure its continued support for the

Tickets will cost $20 for admission or $25 for admission plus a glass of wine.
Doors open at 7pm and the film will be screened at 7.30pm.
