Taking a conference ‘tour’
An online ‘Event tour’ facility through the national Eventfinder portal will make it much easier for people to register for individual sessions in the ‘Recovering Forbidden Voices Conference’ which takes place in Wellington from 21-25 August 2014.
The conference of performances and presentations, co-hosted by Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music and the German and History Programmes of Victoria University, comprises 20 sessions focused on the music suppressed during World War Two. The sessions include three keynote addresses, four academic panels, 12 concerts and a film screening. Through Eventfinder audiences can now select multiple tickets from any of the 20 sessions in a single transaction.
“The conference 'tour' page on Eventfinder gathers all 20 sessions onto one page, allowing people to select multiple tickets for individual sessions,” explains Professor Donald Maurice, one of the conference organising committee.
“While we would like people to come to the full conference to gain a full appreciation of these silenced composers and their music, we realise that involves a greater time commitment than some people can make. The online ‘tour’ will make it easier for people to combine specific sessions to enhance the experiences that the conference provides.
“For example, the keynote address from author Tayna Tintner is immediately followed by the concert of her late husband’s music,” Maurice explains. “Composer Laurence Sherr will give a keynote address just prior to a concert in which his works are being performed; and the film screening on Sunday afternoon is a biographical account of Richard Fuchs, whose work Vom Judischen Schicksal, receives its world premiere in the orchestral concert that same evening.”
Full or day registrations are still available and have the advantage of not only being greater value for money but also include allocated seating and catering associated with the events.
