After a recent successful season of the theatrical ghost story “Whistle And I'll Come To You”, NO Productions Theatre Collective (Nataliya Oryshchuk) is embarking upon a new project, and joins forces with La Errante Troupe (the experienced Colombian actors Natascha Diaz and Marlon Ortiz) to stage a joyful and adventurous fantasy tale: “Monster Wars”.
The kingdom is threatened by a nightmarish spider-like creature. Will the mysterious Hunter, a wanderer between worlds, aid the Queen and her people with his monster army?...
"Monster Wars" is a hilarious and spectacular tale with a touch of circus and physical theatre, which will delight young and old alike. The show will premier on 17 August at Elmwood Auditorium (11.30am and 1.30pm), and will then continue touring around Christchurch, making another appearance on 31 August at Hohepa Hall in Barrington (2pm and 4pm).
With eerie costumes created by the talented Rachael Travaille (MonstrositiesNZ), the show also features Christchurch circus performers Daniel Heaphy and Taryn Leathart. The soundscape is created by Jazz School graduate Tom Harris and the set design is crafted by Ailise O'Neill, a Fine Arts graduate from Belfast, Ireland. This independent Christchurch theatre group brings together creative people from all over the world: Ukraine, Colombia, Ireland and New Zealand.
"The idea of this show was born on a bleak autumn day" - says Nataliya Oryshchuk, the producer, director and writer of the show, - "We thought of joyous carnival street processions, masks, drums and strong flowing energy, and this is how the characters of Monster Wars sprung to life. We want to add a splash of colour and energy to the gloomy winter of post-earthquake Christchurch - and a kids’ show is the perfect form of theatre for this".
