Gold Medal Famous update an election year favourite; and GMF side project plays Birmingham's Network Festival
Our most hard-working subversives Gold Medal Famous have reworked their election year cult hit of 2011, ‘John Key Is A Dick’, in time for this year’s election – so we present for 2014 ‘John Key Is Still A Dick’. To appeal to varied tastes, they’ve produced an Electropop version and a 90’s Alternative version, with more on the way.

They’ve also released not one but two new videos; ‘Meat Lover’s Pizza’ from the ‘Free Body Culture’ EP which was released earlier this year; and ‘Bastard Lizard’ from their brand new ‘Album of National Significance’. The two videos reflect very different sides of the multifaceted beast that is Gold Medal Famous.
‘Bastard Lizard’ is from their latest album, ‘Album of National Significance’ – an album on which the band have defied expectations and released an epic heavy metal opus. Fans of b-grade horror movies should like this video – and you might say that Wellington is the home of b-grade horror in New Zealand. The video is by Migraine Media in association with Worldforce Metallurgy Productions. Watch Bastard Lizard here.
‘Meat Lover’s Pizza’ is a different – and more political – kettle of fish, sorry, meat. It’s a groovy protest pop song, in which most of the lyrics were appropriated from actual quotes from Prime Minister John Key. This song first featured on the Cheese On Toast anti-GCSB Bill mixtape. Watch Meat Lover’s Pizza here. Both videos are directed by Wellington musician and videographer Karl Jensen:http://www.theaudience.co.nz/karl-jensen/
You can catch Gold Medal Famous live in Wellington on Friday July 25, joining in the celebration of Shaun D Wilson's record release party – ‘The Sketchscreen EP’ Release Party. Here are the event details.
