Heihei for dinner? Countdown stores celebrate Māori Language Week
Phonetic tips such as the below items will be displayed around Countdown stores this week
21 July, 2014: Countdown customers will have a chance to perfect their Māori language this week with in-store translations for some of their favourite everyday items as part of Māori Language Week 2014.
This year's theme is all about learning a different Māori word every week. From today customers will see 38 different food categories in Māori, promoting awareness of the language, including phonetic tips.
“We’re proud to continue our support of Māori Language Week and help Kiwis learn and perfect their te reo translations while they shop with us,” says Dave Chambers, Managing Director at Countdown.
“As part of communities around the country, we’re proud to serve more than 2.7 million shoppers through our doors every week, and this is a great opportunity for them to connect with the Māori language. I encourage everyone to have a go at using these words and celebrate the week,” says Dave.
