Appliance Shed Fox Memorial Premiership
With a month to go in the Appliance Shed Fox Memorial Premiership the Pt Chevalier Pirates are inching closer towards taking out regular season honours, with closest rivals Mt Albert falling to Howick last weekend.
In a quality affair out at Paparoa Park the Hornets overcame Mt Albert 22-16 to establish some breathing space between themselves and the Marist Saints in the race for the fourth playoff position.
With second-placed Mt Albert done, the Hornets turn their attention to taking down the ladder-leading Pt Chevalier Pirates this week at Walker Park.
The Konica Minolta Roope Rooster is on the line and the game is being broadcast on Maori Television, so motivation won’t be an issue.
The second TV game sees Richmond clash with Glenora, where the Bulldogs will continue their fight to avoid relegation.
The other team in that battle for Fox survival is Otahuhu, who host Marist at Bert Henman Park.
The stakes are high for both; Otahuhu are in desperate need of a win from their final four games and Marist realistically require a victory to keep their finals hopes alive, with a do-or-die clash against Howick awaiting next week.
There will be plenty of interest around Mt Albert v Papakura at Fowlds Park, with the Lions looking to bounce back from their second loss of 2014 last week.
The clash between two of the competition’s most talented playmakers in William Stowers and Cody Walker is sure to be a highlight too.
Mangere East and Northcote finish off the round, with the Tigers knowing a win will guarantee their survival in the Fox for 2015.
