Full-on August for Alberton
Alberton – the Heritage New Zealand property in Mt Albert – will be making a big song and dance throughout August.
Visitors to the historic mansion will be able to enjoy a range of events offering something for everyone.
“We’ll begin the month with a traditional Victorian Tea Dance on August 3 (2-5pm),” says the Manager of Alberton,
Rendell McIntosh.
“Live dance music will be provided by the wonderful Rose and Thistle Country Band and people are encouraged to come
dressed in their best Victorian costume.”
A formal Alberton Ball will take place a couple of weeks later on the evening of August 16 (7pm onwards).
“We ran similar events last year, and both proved to be extremely popular. We have limited space so people are best to
book early to avoid disappointment.”
Alberton will also host two concerts in August. The first one – Sing a Song of Soldiers – will feature pianist Reg
Towers and opera singers Catherine Raeburn, Louise Malloy, Devon Ashton and Mark Covich, and will take place on August
10 (2pm).
“This will be a very special concert as it will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I,” says
Rendell.
“Reg and his team of singers will perform songs from that era including Rag Time ballads, and songs that range from
rousing to introspective.”
A very different concert will take place on August 17 (3pm) as internationally renowned pianist Ludwig Treviranus
returns to Alberton with a concert of easy listening Classical music.
“Ludwig had a sold-out concert at Alberton last year, and this year we’re expecting the same with a fantastic line-up of
music by Chopin, Gershwin and Strauss,” he says.
“Members of the audience will also be able to participate in Ludwig’s Face the Music session again – which proved to be
a lot of fun at his last concert here.”
