Saturday’s Fire and Ice festival events postponed by weather
A forecast of deteriorating weather for Rotorua tomorrow (Saturday 12 July) has resulted in a decision to postpone
Saturday events in The Hits Fire & Ice Festival.
The Rotorua Fire Walk and Polar Plunge events scheduled for tomorrow afternoon (Saturday) will now be held on Sunday
afternoon (13 July) from midday.
Saturday’s Blaze Night will now be held on Saturday 26 July from 6pm, the final weekend of The Hits Fire & Ice Festival. Weather permitting the Blaze Night will coincide in with the Ignite Fire & Lights Lantern Parade the same evening.
Rotorua District Council major events coordinator Jason Cameron said that organising outdoor events in winter was always
challenging.
“We want to give people the best opportunity to come out, support and enjoy these special events in Rotorua,” he said.
“So we’ve taken the decision to postpone Saturday events this weekend to avoid the concentrated spell of bad weather
forecast for the afternoon and evening. Fortunately Sunday’s forecast is looking more promising.”
“However the very popular Harcourts Outdoor Ice Rink will continue operating throughout the weekend from 10am to 10pm
regardless of the weather as the ice rink has protection from the elements.
“This weekend also sees an Ice Carnival on the Harcourts Outdoor Ice Rink with ice games, fun characters, snow sculpting
and some fantastic prizes to be won,” said Mr Cameron.
