Corporates take Sky Tower challenge to new heights
Eighty businesses will battle it out to prove who is the fittest in town and who can raise the most money for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC) when they take on the Corporate Sky Tower Stair Challenge on Friday 1 August.
Teams of five from companies including SKYCITY, Coca Cola Amatil, Fisher and Paykel, Spark (formerly Telecom), Farmers Trading Company, Fidelity Life, .99 and Bell Gully will race up 1,103 stairs in support of LBC.
Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand’s CEO Pru Etcheverry says she is delighted by how quickly this event has caught on for businesses.
“Blood cancers and related conditions can affect anyone, so it’s excellent to see business people giving back to their communities by supporting this event and helping the families affected by blood cancers.”
Teams aim to raise $5,000 each with an overall fundraising target of $250,000 for the event. Close to $61,000 has been raised already, with Trade Me fast becoming a popular way to kick start fundraising.
Farmers Trading Company, a long-term supporter of LBC, auctioned off a range of fabulous items including a queen-sized Sleepyhead bed raising almost $4,000. Meanwhile another partner of LBC, Fidelity Life, auctioned off a tropical escape for six to Rarotonga including flights and accommodation also raising around $4,000.
SKYCITY Auckland General Manager John Mortensen says SKYCITY is proud to support Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand though the Corporate Stair Challenge and give everyday New Zealanders the chance to race up an iconic structure in this unique and exciting event.
“We had great success with the Firefighter Sky Tower Stair challenge earlier this year which saw a record breaking 700 Firefighters race up the Tower, and more than $913,000 donated to LBC.”
“Not only is it a fantastic event which gets the business community together, the funds go towards an incredibly worthy cause making a positive difference across New Zealand.”
The money raised from this event funds LBC’s work, including research and support of the six Kiwis diagnosed every day with a blood cancer or related condition and their families. LBC receives no Government funding.
