The Museum of Wellington City & Sea is showcasing the talents of some of the city’s brightest young musical talent next month with its very own
Songwriter Circle, the latest event in its popular Third Thursday series.
On Thursday 17 July at 7pm, the Museum hosts three young musicians. Jack Larsen, Petra Bullock and Jim Bailey will
perform their own original music within the walls of the Museum’s stunning heritage building.
A Songwriter Circle is a popular way of sharing original music among a gathering of singer-songwriters. The format
encourages discussion about the works being performed and spontaneous musical collaboration.
All three musicians are beginning to make their mark on the country’s music scene. In 2012, Petra won the Play It
Strange National Songwriting competition. Speaking about Petra’s performance, head judge Jordan Luck commented "So many
of those songs stopped me in my tracks. I played them again and again."
Petra has already performed alongside the likes of Lorde, Avalanche City, Stan Walker, Dane Rumble, Annie Crummer and
Dave Dobbyn.
Speaking about the July event, Head of Learning and Programmes, Rachel Ingram says, “The Wellington region has many
hugely talented musicians. Our Songwriter Circle is a way of celebrating this and giving young musicians a platform on
which they can showcase their talents.”
Third Thursday is a monthly event at the Museum of Wellington City & Sea that showcases Wellington’s history, people, taonga and culture.
