Come learn about beer - Semester 2: Intro to Beer and 200 series - Craft Beer College


Come along to learn about beer - You can join us for any of the Introduction to Beer Series or for our 200 Series. All the dates and details are outlined below and on our Facebook site - follow us at www.facebook.com/craftbeercollege.


You can attend one or all of the tastings in either series. Bookings can be made by emailing info@craftbeercollege.co.nz. A 10% discount will be offered to those who book and pay for either of the series of five tastings in advance.

Introduction to Beer

The Introduction to Beer sessions will start with Beer 101 for those keen learn more about the basics of craft beer. The series will then take participants through a journey of malt, hops and yeast. The tasting series will culminate in a pub quiz-style, blind-tasting, Craft Beer College “exam”.

The 200 Series

The 200 Series sessions will start with an exploration of pale ales, move through dark and delicious beers for the winter months and will explore the influence of Belgian beers and brewing. Those with a taste for sour ale can tickle their taste buds. The series will end with big and barrel-aged beers.

200 Series: Passion for Pale (Ale)

This tasting will showcase a range of pale ales. It will highlight the diversity and deliciousness of what would have to be New Zealand’s favourite style of beer.

Intro to Beer: Beer 101

Saturday 19 July, 2pm

Interested in learning about the basics and getting familiar with the great craft beers on offer? Join us for our Beer 101 tasting. Email info@craftbeercollege.co.nz

Beer 101 is a basic guide to craft beer. You will taste seven different craft beers from New Zealand and around the world. Tasters learn the basics on how great beer is made with the few simple ingredients of malt, hops, yeast and water.

200 Series: Dark and Delicious

This tasting will showcase a range of dark beers just in time for winter. Come and learn more about the diversity of darks.

Intro to Beer: The Miracle of Malt

Saturday 16 August, 2pm

Want to know more about malt and why it is so important to the brewing of beer? Join us for our Miracle of Malt tasting. Email info@craftbeercollege.co.nz

The Miracle of Malt is a celebration of the miracle of malt and the contribution it makes to the flavour and colour of beer. You will taste seven beers that will all showcase the importance of malt in the brewing process and highlight the impact on ABV. Some interesting beers with malt alternatives will also be featured.

200 Series: Belgica - Belgian-style Beers

This tasting will showcase the might of Belgian beers and brewing. It will include Belgian-styles brewed by others around the world.

Intro to Beer: The Pathway to Hoppiness

Saturday 20 September, 2pm

Have you heard about the brewing world's current obsession with hops and want to know more? Join us for The Pathway to Hoppiness tasting. Email info@craftbeercollege.co.nz

The Pathway to Hoppiness celebrates the brewing world's obsession with hops. You will taste seven beers with a variety of New Zealand and international hops, and that build up in hop intensity. You will learn about the historical importance of hops, and the birth of the popular India Pale Ale (IPA) style of beer.

This tasting is for all those beer lovers who are developing their obsession for sour beers. It will feature sours from around the world.

Intro to Beer: The Beast that is Yeast

Saturday 18 October, 2pm

Have you found chunks at the bottom of your craft beer and want to know what they are? Join us for The Beast that is Yeast tasting. Email info@craftbeercollege.co.nz

The Beast that is Yeast will take you through seven beers that have been influenced by the yeast used in the brewing process. The tasting will show how yeast influences the aroma and flavour of beer and its importance in the brewing process.

200 Series: Big and Barrel-aged

Saturday 8 November, 2pm

Time to try some big, barrel-aged and vintage ales? Email info@craftbeercollege.co.nz

This tasting will showcase the Hashigo Zake and Beer Without Borders catalogue. It will provide a chance to experience the influence and character of beers aged in oak.

Intro to Beer: Craft Beer College "Exam"

Saturday 15 November, 2pm

Do you want to test your taste buds and win some great prizes? Join us for our Craft Beer College "exam" tasting. Email info@craftbeercollege.co.nz

The Craft Beer College "Exam" will begin with a beer to stimulate the brain. It will then include six beers presented blind and combined with a series of "exam" questions that will test participants' knowledge of craft beer. Those who "pass" will receive a Craft Beer College certificate. Shouldn't all exams be this fun?
