‘The People’s Artist’ has arrived
Renowned New Zealand artist, Craig S. Primrose QSM, launched a new campaign last night to celebrate everyday Kiwis and their contribution to New Zealand through portraiture.
The launch of ‘The Peoples Artist’ campaign gives artist Craig S. Primrose the opportunity to paint New Zealand through its people.
“The idea behind the campaign is to celebrate all Kiwis and bring to life what these people do. I want to paint a variety of New Zealanders, those that have given back to the community and helped people out, the unsung heroes so to speak. I will happily provide my time and skills to make this a reality for these amazing people,” said Mr Primrose.
Unveiled last night was the first portrait with Colin Mathura-Jeffree as its subject. “This portrait depicted the positive elements of New Zealand culture and showcases the increasing diversity of modern New Zealand,” said Mr Primrose. Guests at the launch event nominated the next New Zealander to be painted and this will be selected in the coming week.
Auckland born Craig S. Primrose is one of New Zealand’s leading contemporary artists, and has received the Queen’s Service Medal for his services to the arts. He is known throughout the world for his skilful portraiture, sporting imagery and stunning landscapes. His works include a signed portrait of Brazilian soccer great Pele and portraits of Andre Agassi, Sir Elton John and Craig’s idol Sir Edmund Hillary.
