New Zealander of the Year 2015 call for nominations

The New Zealander of the Year Awards Office has announced that is seeking nominations for the 2015 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year.

The Awards seeks nominations from all fields including the arts, sport, community service, health, public service, the environment, volunteers, tourism, business, rural, education, entertainment, science, technology, innovation and cultural development.

Nominations are also being sought for exceptional New Zealanders in the following categories:

• University of Auckland Young New Zealander of the Year (15 – 30 years)
•
• Metlifecare Senior Citizen of the Year (60 years and over)
•
• Kiwibank Local Heroes
•
• Sanitarium Innovator of the Year
•
• Mitre10 Community of the Year

Any member of the public can nominate an individual or community organisation in the Awards programme. Nominations for the 2015 New Zealander of the Year Awards can be made until 30th September 2014 through completing the online nomination form or requesting an information brochure from the Awards Office.

Comment from New Zealander of the Year Awards Manager, Glyn Taylor:

“The New Zealander of the Year Awards is the ultimate recognition of people’s service to New Zealand, nominated by New Zealanders. They celebrate and reward outstanding individuals or groups who are passionate about making ourcountry a better place to live.

“Today marks the start of our six month long search to find this year’s recipients. The judging panel is looking forward to seeing who New Zealanders think are deserving of the award.”

“What makes the New Zealander of the Year award particularly special is that its recognition from everyday people in the community Many Kiwis do great things that, while not well known publicly, are noticed by those whose lives they’ve touched. The New Zealander of the Year awards is the communities’ way of saying thanks and I encourage everybody who knows someone doing good work in the community, to put forward a nomination.”

Background

The annual New Zealander of the Year awards is in its sixth year. It recognises, encourages and rewards New Zealand's most vital asset - its people. It is open to all New Zealanders and celebrates the contributions of New Zealanders from all walks of life.

The 2015 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year will be announced by the Prime Minister at the New Zealander of the Year Gala Awards in Auckland on 25 February.

Previous winners of the New Zealander of the Year Award are: Dr Lance O’Sullivan (2014), Dame Anne Salmond (2013), Sir Richard Taylor (2012), Sir Paul Callaghan (2011) and Sir Ray Avery (2010).
