NorthTec Tutor Selected as Judge for Premiere Culinary Competition
Amanda Turner, well known Northland culinary specialist, has been selected as one of the judges for this year’s premiere Nestlé Toque d’Or competition in Auckland in August. Amanda – “This event is the crème de la crème of the ompetition arena and happens all over the world. I’m excited and honoured to be part of the judging panel.”
The Nestlé Toque d’Or is run by the New Zealand Chefs Association (NZCA) in conjunction with Nestlé Professional, and it pits teams of top culinary and out of house students from around the country against each other in a live cook off. Amanda is a hospitality tutor at NorthTec and says NorthTec has competed regularly in Nestlé Toque d’Or. “In 2012 NorthTec came home with silver in the kitchen division and gold for the front of house division.”
Nestlé Toque d’Or, which is held during the Culinary Fare, will take place at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau Auckland on Monday 18 August and the awards dinner will be held later in the evening at the Villa Maria Estate.
Amanda Turner previously ran the award winning café Waikokopu in Waitangi for 15 years with her partner Hughie Blues. Amanda - “For a lot of those years I was also teaching hospitality at NorthTec part-time, and in recent years I’ve been tutoring the National Certificate in Hospitality (Operations Supervision) full time.
This course is aimed at people in hospitality who either are wanting NorthTec is the Tai Tokerau (Northland) region's largest provider of tertiary education, with campuses and learning centres in Whangarei, Kerikeri, Rāwene, Kaikohe and Kaitaia. NorthTec also has over 60 community-based delivery points from Coatesville in rural Rodney to Ngataki in the Far North.
