As the NZ Freeski Open celebrates its 10th year of competition, the magnificent Southern Lakes district will once again welcome the world’s best freeriders who will be eager to rack up early season qualifying points for the prestigious Freeride World Tour.
The week long window will allow organisers to opt for the best possible snow and weather conditions for the two-day Big Mountain event. The competition venue, within the Southern Lakes, will be confirmed in due course.
The NZ Freeski Open consistently attracts the who’s who of Big Mountain skiing and has provided a stepping stone for New Zealand’s top freeskiing talent to compete on the world stage. Kiwis Sam Smoothy, Charlie Lyons and Neil Williman used good results at the NZ Freeski Open to help secure them a spot on the 2013/2014 Freeride World Tour.
Competitors wishing to enter the Big Mountain competition will be able to do so from early July via the Freeride World Tour member portal. Riders will need to visit http://www.freerideworldtour.com/registration.html where they can purchase their competition license and register for the North Face Freeski Open of New Zealand with a credit card.
