Appliance Shed Fox Memorial Premiership - Previews 21/6

20/6/2014

AUCKLAND RUGBY LEAGUE

ARL Premiership previews – June 21

For Immediate Release

Appliance Shed Fox Memorial Premiership

The Otahuhu Leopards host the two Appliance Shed Fox Memorial Maori Television games this Saturday, with Northcote and Mt Albert kicking off the day’s action.

Northcote finally got back in the winner’s circle last week, with a victory over the Richmond Bulldogs which might go a long way to ensuring the Tigers stay in the Fox for 2015.

That win was helped along by the presence of Kevin Locke, who only weeks ago was playing NRL for the Warriors.

While it is unclear whether Locke will don Tigers colours this week, it is fantastic to have a recent Kiwi international lining up in the competition.

Mt Albert meanwhile scraped past a valiant Marist Saints side last up, using their size and experience to grind the Saints out in a thrilling contest at Fowlds Park.

Otahuhu line up for their second TV game in as many weeks, after being pipped at the post by the Howick Hornets.

The Leopards were right in the contest, but made some critical errors when the game was on the line.

Their job doesn’t get any easier this week, taking on a Papakura side who sit third on the table with seven wins, including a 26-24 triumph over Alec Brown’s Mangere East Hawks last Saturday.

The Hawks themselves are ever-improving, and will be expecting to take the points this week against the winless Richmond Bulldogs at Grey Lynn Park.

Glenora host Howick at Harold Moody Park, with the Bears sure to be on a high after sticking with Pt Chevalier for the full 80 minutes last week.

The Bears have assistant coach Gavin Bailey lacing up the boots once again at five-eighth.

Marist tackle Pt Chevalier in the final game of the round, with Anthony Lipscombe’s men quietly confident they are edging closer to the top teams in the Fox.

Block-busting prop Kaleni Fraser is back in the Saints’ side, and their talented centre pairing of Tangi Ropati and Josh Tamaseu-Russell will challenge the Pirates’ edge defence all day.
