Media Design School to unleash Connie Radar on San Diego Comic-Con

AUCKLAND, 17 June 2014 - Media Design School is Over The Moon with the success of its latest short film, which has been selected for the prestigious Comic-Con International Film Festival in San Diego July 24-27.
Featuring cult comic book heroine Connie Radar, Over The Moon can only be described as an intergalactic battle of the sexes complete with robots, astronauts and lots of guns.
It will screen as part of the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival, which showcases the very best films in
their genre from around the world. Director James Cunningham (Shelved, Rotting Hill) and writer/creator Karl Wills will also attend as invited speakers.
Cunningham, a senior 3D lecturer at the Auckland-based school, was quick to congratulate the 15 Media Design School
students and New Zealand film industry contributors who brought the project to life including musician Gray Bartlett (Return of Zero Man), composer Jason Smith and the actors; Anna Jullienne (Shortland Street), Calum Gittins, David Van Horn and Damien Avery.
“Over The Moon was Media Design School’s most ambitious project to date, with 15 Bachelor of Art and Design students working for 23
weeks and 18,000 hours to complete the film. Achieving this recognition from Comic-Con is incredible and a testament to
the hard work and creativity of the faculty, students and industry partners who worked on this project,” says
Cunningham.
Several of the students who worked on the film have just been snapped up by Weta Digital where they will work on the
last of The Hobbit trilogy.
With more than 130,000 visitors pouring through Comic-Con’s doors each day, the four-day entertainment convention is the
largest event of its kind in the world. It is also an opportunity for fans to hear the latest film and television
announcements, often from the stars themselves.
Closer to home, Over The Moon will make its New Zealand premiere in theNew Zealand International Film Festival after it was selected as a finalist for Best Short by Andrew Adamson (Mr Pip, The Chronicles of Narnia).
