Awards recognise achievements of Hastings youth
The fourth annual Hastings District Council Youth Potential awards will reward young people from around the district who
have shown commitment to achieving their goals.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held on Thursday 3rd July 2014 in the Hastings District Council Chambers. The ceremony will celebrate the achievement and success of young people in
provider programmes, with a focus on youth from Hastings.
Mayor, Lawrence Yule says “It is important that we celebrate the success of our young people. Many of these youths are
supported by their whanau, schools and community organisations and have shown that with strong support and
encouragement, they can reach their potential.”
Lawrence Yule says “These awards will recognise those young people who have achieved in the face of personal adversity
and who will serve as an inspiration to others.”
The nominees all take part in a Youth Provider programme or service, are aged between 13 and 19 and currently attend
school. The awards acknowledge tane (male), wahine (female) and roopu (group or organisation). Nominations for the youth
potential awards have come from local service providers, youth groups, marae and schools around the district.
A neutral judging panel, including representatives of various Government, community organisations and Youth Council
members will choose the Youth Potential Award recipients.
The Youth Potential Awards will be presented in the Council Chambers, 207 Lyndon Road East, Hastings at 6pm on Thursday 3rd July, 2014.
