Tourist Road Code Education Targeted
For immediate release. 13 June 2014 With mounting pressure to help rein in the increasing number of tourist road
accidents in New Zealand, a new visitor-focused Road Code quiz has launched at
http://www.drivingtests.co.nz/roadcode/tourist/
The quiz contains 65 essential Road Code questions covering a range of knowledge from give way rules to speed limits
past school buses. As well reducing crashes that cause injury and death, it also aims to reduce non-injury accidents
that cause inconvenience for tourists and vehicle rental companies.
“If a driver has never driven on the left before, everything is reversed. The quiz gives them a chance to consider how
the give way rules work, how roundabout signalling should be performed, and what our speed limits and restrictions are,”
says Darren Cottingham, Director of the website.
The website, which currently helps over 35,000 people per month, has support from many vehicle rental companies that see
it as a way to minimise their risks. The companies also supply NZTA’s booklet “What’s Different About Driving in New
Zealand”, but are often too busy to explain each point to clients as they collect a vehicle if it’s in peak season.
“Any way we can get to these drivers before they get here means that they’ll be better prepared when they start driving
on New Zealand’s roads,” Mr Cottingham said.
DrivingTests.co.nz helps over 35,000 people per month learn the Road Code by providing free mock theory tests using
NZTA’s questions. It also produces additional learning content and opinion related to driving and road safety.
