Appliance Shed Fox Memorial coverage on Maori Television
Appliance Shed Fox Memorial Premiership rugby league will return to screens all over New Zealand this weekend, with the start of Maori Television broadcasts for 2014.
The first televised game of the year is on Saturday at 3.30pm, with the ladder-leading Pt Chevalier Pirates taking on 2012 runners-up the Glenora Bears.
Following that is a 1.30pm Sunday screening of the fourth-placed Howick Hornets hosting local rivals Otahuhu, who sit eighth in the ten-team competition.
Returning for a fifth year, the Maori Television coverage will include two games per weekend for the next 12 weeks, followed by play-off games and live coverage of the Grand Final on August 30.
Auckland Rugby League football operations manager Troy Hardy said the start of coverage had been highly anticipated in league circles.
“It is great to have Maori Television on board once again to showcase the talent and quality league on display in the Appliance Shed Fox Memorial Premiership.
“We are taking the Auckland game to a national audience, and these matches appeal to all league fans who want to watch exciting free-to-air footy on the weekends.”
The coverage will be hosted by Te Arahi Maipi, with commentary from Dale Husband and Rusty Matua.
Hemana Waaka and Wairangi Koopu will also provide Maori commentary of the same games for Te Reo channel. These will be broadcast on Sundays at 9.00pm and Tuesdays at 8.30pm.
Koopu is sure to add a unique take on the action, given he has come out of retirement in recent weeks to play for Pt Chevalier in the Fox.
