H.I.P. new season for Rotorua baby boomers

Rotorua District Council’s winter/spring edition of the popular ‘H.I.P. Stuff for Baby Boomers’ booklet has been released.

H.I.P. Stuff for Baby Boomers aims to get local ‘soon-to-be-seniors’ involved in hobbies, interests and passions - hence the name ‘H.I.P.’

Rotorua District councillor Mark Gould, who leads the older persons’ stream of the council’s People Strategy, said publication had been making a huge difference to many people’s lives.

“The 32-page H.I.P. booklet showcases opportunities for residents transitioning into retirement, to challenge themselves and enrich their lives.

“We’ve found that each new edition is keenly anticipated by those in our community who take a proactive approach to their lifestyles,” said Mr Gould.

One resident, 84 year old Edda Poynting who returned to Rotorua from Australia 20 months ago, said she regularly picks up a few copies of the latest H.I.P. brochure to pass on to friends.

“Finding this book at City Focus has extended my life. Through it, I’ve joined three great clubs … and met some lovely people. I’ve got a new life filled with a sense of freedom,” she said.

H.I.P. Stuff for Baby Boomers includes three main sections - Discovery, Active and Creative - each highlighting a comprehensive selection of options for the 50+ age group to discover.

Copies of H.I.P. Stuff for Baby Boomers are available free from Rotorua District Council’s Customer Centre, various retail and community organisations, or can be downloaded from the council website rdc.govt.nz (under ‘Our City’ tab).
