Global campaigner for women honoured by Zonta International

Global campaigner for women honoured by Zonta International

Pictured here are from the left - Zonta International President Lynn McKenzie, Zonta International Honorary Member Dr Marilyn Waring, and Zonta International New Zealand Governor Maureen Heine.

On 4 June 2014 Zonta members from around New Zealand attended a luncheon at the Quality Hotel in Auckland to honour Dr Marilyn Waring who was presented with the prestigious Zonta International Honorary Membership. Dame Silvia Cartwright and many of Dr Waring’s peers are members of this illustrious group of global women leaders.

The event was hosted by the Zonta Club of Auckland, the first club in New Zealand which was chartered 49 years ago.

Zonta International President Lynn McKenzie, made a presentation to Dr Marilyn Waring and Governor Maureen Heine made a presentation on behalf of Zonta here in New Zealand.

Joining Zonta members to mark this very special occasion were representatives from other likeminded organisations, Auckland University of Technology, where Dr Waring is Professor of Public Policy, politicians and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commissioner, Dr Jackie Blue.

Dr Waring in her response spoke about the difficulties associated with "wellbeing" and other such measures which are limited in their scope and often omit critical issues such as violence against women. She will be a key note speaker at the Zonta International Convention in Orlando, Florida later this month where she will also be conducting the ‘women in leadership’ workshop.
